A program of West Neighbourhood House

Greenest City builds healthy, inclusive neighbourhoods through education and empowerment to preserve, protect and improve the environment. We are dedicated to growing good food, sharing good food and connecting people with community and the environment.

Greenest City is excited to announce that as of January 2022, Greenest City has voluntarily joined West Neighbourhood House

Why are we joining West Neighbourhood House?

1)  The Greenest City community told us, and the staff and board heard, that the community wants us to continue and grow our impact

2) COVID has been hard on everyone, including small non-profit organizations like Greenest City. The Ontario Nonprofit Network has reported that 6 out of 10 small non-profits are likely to close in the next year.

3) West Neighbourhood House is an ideal partner

Help us support our community

Our Thriving Earth, Thriving People: Adopt a Community Garden campaign aims to support our three urban gardens, the Milky Way Garden, the Hope Garden, and the Dunn Learning Indigenous Garden. These gardens support and connect over 200 people within the community.

The Impacts of your Generous Contributions:

  • Help our ecological efforts to green the city, mitigate air pollution, and preserve native edible and pollinator species.

  • Increase accessibility to nature, freshly grown food, physical activity, and community connections for those who identify as low income, contributing to the improvement of community physical and mental health.

  • Support the efforts of Indigenous community members to connect with the land, culture and ceremony, as well as settlers, immigrants, and refugees - supporting righting relations and truth and reconciliation.

Benefits

Adopting a garden with the Greenest City will not only directly improve the quality of our community gardens and programs, but it also comes with some returning benefits. Along the way, you will receive updates on your adopted garden, including photos, videos, and brief reports. You will also be invited to join us for our special events to learn and participate in food sovereignty and environmental stewardship. Additionally, enjoy the perks from a bountiful garden, such as free seeds from our seed swap events. We encourage you to visit and tour our community gardens and see the results of your generous contributions. Lastly, we hope that this act of generosity will instil pride in yourself owing to the tangible contribution you have made to a thriving earth and a thriving community.

How does the campaign work?

Your monetary contribution can be done individually or monthly. The funds will directly support the work of Greenest City and the community. We suggest contributions starting from $50.00 CA, but you can donate anything according to your own budget. There are no restrictions at all!
