Sourdough Bread 101: Beginners Workshop

Greenest City is proud to offer another Beginner to Sourdough Bread Workshop Wednesday December 16th // 6:00 - 8:00pm

Sourdough bread is an ancient and natural way to make bread. It utilizes the natural processes of wild yeast to 'rise' the bread and create a delicious slightly sour flavour.

Bread making isn't difficult, but it can seem daunting at first. There are so many different approaches and a range of techniques out there - like many things, just getting a grasp of how to start can be one of the more difficult parts of the process.

This class is aimed at beginners to sourdough - it will be an overview of the entire process from beginning to end and hopefully demystify the process for those who would like to start baking their own homemade sourdough bread at home.

Soup & Stories

Greenest City really loves gathering people for meals. Sharing in the growing, the cooking and enjoyment of meals is pretty central to who we are as an organization. We miss it a lot!

Covid-19 has changed a lot about our lives. It has changed the way we work, the way we see family, friends and our neighbours. It’s also changed the way we eat and how we gather.

In an effort to gather and come together -while maintaining safety and distance- we’re happy to announce a new project that maintains the safety of community members while trying to imagine new ways to stay connected and celebrate.

Soup & Stories is a Greenest City project that hires local cooks to make a huge batch of soup in our community kitchen. Every other week, you can sign up for a free container of a Parkdale resident's signature soup. The best part is that you can join us the following day for a Zoom dinner with the Cook and ask questions, hear about the soup, the ingredients, where its from or anything else.

Parkdale Cooks: Ferments II

Greenest City's Adrian DiLena will be guiding us through some simple fermentation concepts while we create our own hot sauce!

No prior experience with fermentation necessary.

Register on Eventbrite.

*** WE WILL BE SENDING OUT THE ZOOM MEETING INFORMATION TO THOSE THAT HAVE REGISTERED ON THURSDAY EVENING ***

Fermentation is a natural process that safely uses microorganisms to preserve and transform foods. Many foods use fermentation to create their unique and potent flavours - everything from Sourdough Bread to Kimchi and more.

In this workshop, we be learning about some of the basic concepts involved in fermentation as well as following along as we make a hot sauce!

Knowing these underlying rules, concepts and how the fermentation process works will help you to follow future recipes, know when something is ready to eat as well as allow you to make your own fermentation experiments and recipes.

If you have any questions - please email:

adrian@greenestcity.ca

Looking forward to the workshop!

Take care.
